The Montana Supreme Court is the highest judicial authority in the state, responsible for interpreting Montana law, overseeing the entire judicial system, and ensuring that justice is administered fairly and consistently. Beyond handling appeals in civil and criminal cases, the Court establishes rules and standards that guide courts across the state. Its work affects every Montanan, from shaping how courts operate to ensuring that all residents have access to fair and transparent legal processes.
A lesser known but vital role of the Court is supporting programs that give children a voice in the legal system. Through the Judicial Branch, including initiatives like Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Guardian ad Litem (GAL), the Court provides guidance and funding that help organizations advocate for children in foster care or navigating child welfare systems. CASA of Lincoln County receives between $20,000 to $24,000 annually through this support, allowing volunteers to provide critical advocacy for children in need. The Supreme Court’s backing is more than funding — it’s a commitment to stronger outcomes for children and families in our community.

The Montana Board of Crime Control (MBCC) is the state’s key agency for promoting public safety, reducing crime, and supporting victim services across Montana. As the administrator of federal and state grant programs, MBCC distributes funding — including the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grants — to local organizations that provide direct support to victims of crime. VOCA grants are federally funded through the U.S. Department of Justice and are awarded competitively to nonprofits, courts, and public agencies that help victims stabilize their lives, understand and participate in the justice system, and find safety and security after victimization.
CASA of Lincoln County is grateful to be a VOCA grant recipient through MBCC. This funding, totaling $60,478 over the 2025–2027 period, helps us recruit, train, and support highly dedicated volunteer advocates who ensure children affected by abuse and neglect have a powerful, caring voice in court. By connecting federal resources with local programs, MBCC’s VOCA grants strengthen victim services statewide and make a real difference for families and communities in Lincoln County.
